Guwahati | December 27–31 — Young prodigy
Pratyush Kumar, a student of
Chessturf Academy, Odisha, delivered a sensational performance at the
National School Chess Championship, finishing
4th in the highly competitive U-7 Open category with an impressive
7 points out of 9 rounds.
A Marvellous Comeback Performance
At just
6 years of age, Pratyush showcased exceptional resilience and fighting spirit. Despite losing
two games mid-tournament, he staged a stunning comeback by
winning his last four consecutive rounds, storming into the
Top 4 and stamping his authority among the nation’s best young talents.
Big Stage, Bigger Achievement
- The championship witnessed participation from around 700 children across India, spread across multiple age categories.
- Odisha was represented by 30 players, and among them, Pratyush Kumar emerged as the best performer for the state, making Odisha immensely proud on the national stage.
Guided by Experience
Pratyush is being coached by
Swayangsu Satyakam,
FIDE National Instructor, seasoned player, and Director of Chessturf Academy, whose structured training and competitive grooming continue to produce consistent national-level results.
Fighting Spirit Beyond the Board
Another Chessturf student,
Aahan Abhigyan, competed in the
U-11 Open category. Battling through health issues, Aahan displayed remarkable determination, scoring well against
rated players and is
expected to achieve his FIDE rating soon, reflecting both courage and class.
