Bhubaneswar witnessed a remarkable display of talent and determination as the students of Chessturf Academy delivered outstanding performances at the 16th SOA GM Tournament. Competing across multiple categories, Chessturf players clinched podium finishes in Category B, Category C, and Category D (Blitz), underlining the academy’s growing strength in competitive chess.
Key Highlights – Chessturf at the 16th SOA GM Tournament
- Category B – A Star in the Making
- One of the youngest participants, Pratyush Kumar, fresh from a 4th-place finish at the Guwahati National School Chess Championship, played superbly.
- He secured 7th place in the Unrated section, winning a cash award of ₹5,000.
- Scoring an impressive 3.5 points out of 10 against rated players, Pratyush qualified for his FIDE rating, becoming the youngest rated player of Chessturf Academy and among the youngest in the state.
- Category C (Below 1700 Rating) – Consistency & Class
- Pratyush Kumar continued his fine form, winning 3rd Best in the U-6 category, holding his own against experienced rated opponents.
- The standout performance came from Shreyas Behuria, who scored 7 points out of 9, finished 11th overall, and emerged 1st in the 1500–1599 rating category, winning a trophy and ₹15,000 cash award.
